The County Recorder was the first office created by the Constitution of the State of Indiana in 1816. The Recorder is elected to a four-year term, with a two-term limitation.
It is the primary duty of the County Recorder to record instruments submitted for recording and maintain those records for perpetuity. The Recorder maintains and preserves all legal documents affecting title to real property. These records are the legal basis for determining ownership.
A County Recorder processes and stores a range of documents, most related to real estate. Documents must meet all necessary conditions. Please visit our "Fee Schedule" and "Recording Requirements" pages for more information.
Public Records Requests
The Recorder's Staff will not search public records or give any legal opinions. If you know the recording information, you may request a copy from our office. Otherwise, you may come in and use one of our public access computers.
